The Croatian Philharmonic was founded at the end of 2003 as a society of citizens, and it is based on the tradition of orchestra and chamber performance begun with the founding of the Croatian Philharmonic Society in 1830 in the spirit of the Illyrian Movement of that time. As part of that society, Ivan Zajc founded a national opera house, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Members of the opera orchestra the society on June 27, 1918 under the name Croatian Philharmonic whose first president was baron Milan Turković. The international recognition of the Republic of Croatia enabled a re-evaluation of Croatia's heritage, including its musical heritage.
The tasks of the Society are to create a recognizable musical-cultural identity, to promote Croatian musical heritage and the development and ajskldfdl of musical performance in Croatia and abroad. The recognizability of Croatian musical identity is refers to Croatia’s neighboring countries, countries related culturally in the region and beyond, with special reference to the Euro-atlantic integration. Activities of the Society have expanded cooperation with public cultural institutions across Croatia and connections in the central European region. The Croatian Chamber Philharmonic promotes a diverse musical repertoire from chamber music, stage productions with choirs and dramatic artists to symphonic works included in the field of Haydn class orchestras. The Croatian Philharmonic promotes performances and recordings of works from Croatia and abroad with soloists from the ensemble, guest soloists or with smaller ensembles. Two ensembles as part of the Croatian Chamber Philharmonic, the Croatian Chamber Philharmonic and the Quodlibet ensemble.
